In the past few years,
several studies have focused attention on the
serious and devastating aspects of crimes
against women. Here is what they said:
|
1994 Issues and Practices Report of the US Department of
Justice
- concluded "Rape prevention
education may be the most crucial element in confronting
rape as a society."
American Psychological Association
Survey 1998 found that:
- 10-25% of young women between the
ages of 15-24 will be victims of rape or attempted rape.
- 1 in 10 high school students will
experience physical violence from someone they are dating.
National Institute of Justice &
The Centers for Disease Control & Prevention Survey 1998
found that:
- 22% of those surveyed were under
12 when first raped.
- 32% were 12-17 years old when
first raped.
- 3 million women are victims of
domestic violence each year,
Conclusion:
- Rape should be viewed as a crime
against youth
- Violence against women should be
treated as a significant social problem.
