Body Language: Dealing With the Potentially VIOLENT Person

For the law enforcement professional, body language is no longer a luxury but a necessity. Man is the only animal capable of understanding and manipulating cues for sinister purposes and the criminal is becoming expert at it. Without proper training, cops don't stand a fair chance. The program will examine:

  • The messages our body language sends out
  • How we perceive messages and ways to minimize deception
  • Human behavior and how it relates to body language
  • Body language of violent people
  • Examination of threat and submissive cues and the way they are interpreted
  • How stress changes us, for the good and bad
  • Verbal Communication and Verbal De-Escalation Skills

 

Body Language: Are Cops Pre-Programmed For Failure?

The evolution of human conflict has taken a turn for the worse, No longer are arguments resolved verbally or through "ritualistic combat." The program examines:

  • What has happened to the process?
  • Why is the law enforcement community particularly at risk? Most importantly, what, if anything, can be done?
  • This unique slide program will examine how the human body language system has broken down and will provide specific suggestions as to how not to get caught in the trap.
  • This program is a must for anyone who deals with criminal elements.

 

Stress and Combat Performance

Many questions have been coming up concerning training and performance. When under stress, why aren't cops performing as they were trained. This program will examine:

  • How stress will affect the performance of skills i.e. gross, fine and complex motor skills.
  • Why shooting performance deteriorates under stress
  • What if anything can be done to reduce performance failure.

 

Ready or Not: Fight Intervention Strategies

Cops are frequently involved in breaking up fights. Recently, a cop broke up a fight between three individuals. He was rewarded with 150 stitches from a box cutter, The mistakes he made happen all to frequently, This program will examine:

  • The dynamics of fights
  • The 3 stages of a fight
  • When is the safest time to intervene and when are you are greatest risk
  • Suggestions as to what non-physical techniques can be used to intervene
  • A segment that examines why people fight
  • "Ritualistic Combat" will be examined

 

Surviving An Edged Weapon Assault
More officers are assaulted with edged weapons than with guns and the average person does not have a true respect for the lethality of an edged weapon, even a small blade. This program will combine over 38 years of martial arts, stick and knife fighting training (Amis de Mano), seminars and research. The program will examine:
  • Different types of edged weapons and how they can be used
  • What constitutes a safe distance from an edged weapon?
  • How should you respond to a rush? Side stepping vs. stepping back.
  • What are the most common knife grips & who might be using them and why?
  • Knife attacks used by street, biker and prison gangs.
  • What do knife "experts" agree upon?
  • How does body armor hold up against knives?
  • How and where can weapons be concealed?

 

A Guide to Survive a Massacre or Rampage Shooting

While these occurrences are still quite rare, you only have to be in one shooting to appreciate this information. These events have recently occurred in schools, churches and malls. With the increasing risk of terrorist attacks in this country, we might see a rise in this scary activity. Response time is definitely a factor in survival. (This can be added to School, Healthcare, Corporate and Personal Sections)

 

A Guide to Surviving a Hostage Encounter: It Ain’t Just Luck!

Hostage encounters, whether by terrorists or EDPs, is not uncommon for the law enforcement profession. While most times, law enforcement people are on the outside looking in, what would one do if it were us on the inside? In addition to our own safety, we might also be responsible for the safety of other hostages as well. Knowing the dynamics of the situation, who the hostage takers are, the three times hostage takers are most dangerous and the emotional stresses placed on hostages are all important to surviving physically and emotionally.

 

ISC Control Points

ISC Control Points are referred to as the new generation of pressure points. This program is based on 6 years of study and research. It combined the efforts of law enforcement professionals, martial artists, sport medicine professionals and experts in pain management. It was approved by a panel of I I Physicians/Doctorates at a Medical Symposium in 1993. The basic 6 hour program includes both lecture and hands on training. The program covers:

As law enforcement moves more to community policing programs, providing the public with personal safety training makes great sense.

A. Based on a 300+ slide program and book of the same title.

B. The pro-active personal safety program provides young women with safety tips about dating, dangers of drugs and alcohol, travel safety, living on campus or away from home and general alertness.

C. The program has received praise from educators, health and law enforcement professionals from around the country. Numerous pieces have been written about the program in newspapers and magazines including Crimebeat Magazine and The New York Times.

"Become Streetwise!' A Guide To Personal Safety

A. Same as above but geared to a coed audience.

"Become Streetwise!" An Instructor's Training & Certification Program

A. The 6+ hour training program will assist educators to implement the 305+ slide program.

B. The program will assist the school district in setting up the necessary support network.

C. The training will provide the instructors with the necessary understanding and sensitivity to provide a program that is educational, interesting and useful.

 

Spontaneous Ground Defense System
Almost 30 years of research and testing has gone into the development of the Spontaneous Ground Defense System. This program should not be confused with wrestling or ground grappling. The program covers a broad range of issues that include:
  • Advantages and disadvantages of defending from the ground.
  • How to develop a plan.
  • How to effectively use arms, legs, knees, and elbows from the ground.
  • Defense against kicks or thrown objects.
  • How to get off the floor quickly and safely.
  • Over 90% of the techniques presented in the program can be learned and executed within minutes.
  • Spontaneous Ground Defense has been presented at numerous law enforcement conferences including: American Society of Law Enforcement Trainers, Int'l Women in Police Conference, Justice System Training Association, and Police Self-Defense Instructors Int'l.
  • Articles have been published in Police Magazine, Police and Security news, and Defensive tactics newsletter. In addition, SGD was covered on a segment of Law Enforcement Television Network.
  • A recent addition to the SGD System is "The Use of Lethal Force in Defense From the Ground." This short presentation takes a new and refreshing look at the use of lethal force in defense from the ground. What constitutes an "unarmed" subject? The program takes into account proxemics, reading and interpreting body language, threat gestures and verbal communication.

The complex subject of multiple attackers is examined. The program will combine the various aspects of physical training, strategic and tactical planning, psychological factors and the force continuum. The program is broken into two parts, classroom lecture/ discussion and hands on training.
